Hamburg Town Hall Sketchbook

The Hamburg Town Hall is a massive renaissance sandstone building with copper roof which overlooks a large town square. It houses local government offices and is one of the city’s most beautiful buildings. The many sculptures on the Town Hall walls depict past city rulers and saints and also civic occupations like fisherman, chimney sweep, tailor and butcher. There are also statues of the virtues harmony, piety, courage and wisdom. These sketches were made from the cafe on the opposite side of the square.
