My Mother
died in October 2013 and a couple of months later I spent some
time at her house in Taihape, NZ, sorting her effects. It was
early summer and her wonderful garden was flowering. My mother's
garden was a sight to behold and I kept bringing in another
bunch of flowers to paint. If I had flowers like this in my
garden I would be painting flowers day and night.
While I
painted these flowers I listened to Wagner's Ring Cycle from
beginning to end. I wondered later why I was so exhausted but
now, re-discovering these paintings, I realise it was an epic
journey. (My Mother painted the yellow roses at the bottom.)
