Intaglio etchings featuring Richard Wagner and his music
The script in these etchings is Richard Wagner’s last letter to his patron King Ludwig of Bavaria. who loved Wagner’s music and provided him with valuable financial support. The music and profile are, of course, those of Richard Wagner. Most of these etchings are unique, available as only a single copy. There are five of #4 Wagner Script, and two of #5 Wagner Script Profile.

- In these etchings we see Wotan, Brunnhilde and Brunnhilde’s horse Grane through gaps in the Walkurie libretto.
- Wotan is surrounded by Brunnhilde’s remonstrances when he scolds her for disobeying, “Wohl taugt dir nicht die thör’ge Maid” from Walkurie Act III Scene 3.
- Brunhilde and Grane ride through Brunnhilde’s words to Siegmund, “Nur todgeweihten taugt mein Anblick” from Walkurie, Act 2 Scene 3 or through Wotan’s farewell words to Brunnhilde, “Der Augen Leuchtendes Paar”, from Walkurie, Act III Scene 3.
- The Rainbow Bridge can be seen through words “Fliegt Heim Ihr Raben!” from the libretto of Die Götterdämmerung Act III, Scene 3.
Brunhilde’s horse Grane saves the world
These collages have been framed in standard sized 30x40cm frames (see here) and cost A$ 300 (framed) or $190 (unframed). All sales proceeds will go to the support of young Wagnerian singers through the Wagner Society of NSW.
Conducting in Hamburg: Intaglio etchings
These etchings were made in Hamburg during my semester at the print workshop of the University of Hamburg Department of Fine Arts. The Hamburg Elbphilharmonie was being built at the time and the Hamburg horizon was full of cranes. Simone Young was Head and Artistic Director of the Hamburg Opera where I saw her conduct many wonderful performances, including those with Australian Soprano Miriam Gordon-Stewart (whose portrait can be seen on the portraits page). The conductor, the cranes and the swans on the Alster River near the opera house all featured in my etchings.
Unframed etchings are 12.5 x 16 cm, suitable for standard sized frames up to 30×40 cm. Some have been framed (see here).
